Soul on the Radio

Sam Smith is back with his return single after his 2023 release “Unholy” featuring Kim Petras from the album Gloria, and he’s taking us back to the start with “My Guy”. Over the last three years, Smith has been writing and recording his latest release, Hazel Eyes; his long-awaited return is met with great anticipation as fans dig into the new single. Smith debuted the single on Later…With Jools Holland and kicked off New York City Pride on June 25, 2026, at the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center. Smith has also been enjoying a residency at San Francisco’s Castro Theatre with surprise guests including Hozier, Ed Sheeran, Brandi Carlile, SIENNA SPIRO, and Kim Petras. Smith will continue hosting legacies as he travels to Mexico City at Auditorio Nacional, ahead of the release of Hazel Eyes.

My Guy is Revolutionary

The new Sam Smith single is, above all else, a masterpiece of writing; the tender lyricism of waiting for the right man is expressed through Smith’s lush vocals and soulful arrangements. The down-tempo ballad is reminiscent of the Motown hit of the same name by Mary Wells, and reframes the track as an expression of queer joy. My Guy follows the formula that Smith has continually used in his work, with a choir as backing vocals as the music swells and we hear the power in his voice. The vulnerability on the track is a hallmark of Smith’s writing, and the gentle confirmation of his love is a stellar combination with the steady drumbeat keeping the track’s pulse alive. While the track has a minimalist approach, it allows the listener to embrace the lyrics. Its romance is undeniable and has the potential to be the next big wedding song.

My Guy is available to stream on all platforms, and Hazel Eyes is set for release on August 21, 2026, with additional global live dates to be announced.
