Surfaces has released their seventh album, All The Spaces Between. Featuring the TikTok viral single, “Call Me When You’re Home,” the album is already garnering attention. Written during these tumultuous times, it chronicles the journey of managing grief, love, gratitude, and loss.
Finding Peace
All The Spaces Between is a concept album about experiencing grief and finding peace. Padalecki went on to say, “Writing these songs over the past two years helped me find peace in letting go of what I can't hold, and opening my arms for love to find me again. Like most people, I still struggle with polarities in my life, but this album helped me grow so much in the space between them... where life is really lived."
Padalecki’s writing is emotionally forward, taking the listener on a journey of acknowledging hardships without letting them rule your life. Padalecki’s vocals float softly over mellow contemporary arrangements, creating a calm, meditative atmosphere. Throughout the album, the arrangements blend seamlessly to create a multi-genre narrative of life's ebbs and flows.
All The Spaces Between also features the single that went viral on TikTok, “Call Me When You’re Home,” with 16k posts showcasing the band’s cultural impact.
Growing Through It
Surfaces’ transformative album is a breath of fresh air in a rushed lifestyle, letting listeners slow down for a moment and embrace the space they're in. The opening track, “Blame It All On Me,” features a collaboration with Mike Posner, adding vocal depth and a throwback 2010s adult contemporary vibe. As the album continues, “Guess We’ll Never Know” uses gang vocals throughout the chorus, acting as a choir to create a dynamic sound and make it perfect for a sing-along.
All the Spaces Between maintains a beach-inspired vibe, taking cues from surf rock throughout the sonic landscape to build a strong foundation for the lyrical content, directly mentioning the coastline and the beach.
The waves on the beach perfectly encapsulate this album: there is tranquility in watching the waves roll in, and even when storms gather on the horizon, the water eventually calms and peace returns; we just have to be brave and weather the storm.
