All of the Feelings
The iconic Carly Rae Jepsen returned after her 2022 releases, E*MO*TION Side B, Dedicated Side B, and The Loveliest Time. Jepsen’s upcoming album, Day and Night, marks a new era after her brief hiatus and becoming a mother, and the single and accompanying music video explore these themes, along with identity, self-perception, and change. “After All” was written with Kyle Shearer, who also produced, and Nate Cyphert, who helped bring the song to life, and created a sweet and emotional look into Jepsen’s world.
Suspended in Time and Space
“After All” is the first single released from Day and Night, and it delivers a piano-driven, jazz-inspired upbeat track featuring Jepsen’s breathy vocals. Focusing on the day section of her new album, “After All” is a tightrope balance between the quiet organic instruments and the electronic beats that have been a hallmark of Jepsen’s electro-pop sound.
The balance between the two sounds reflects the two sides of Jepsen; however, the track uses elements of both ballad-esque softness and dancefloor-driven electronica, proving that while change is necessary, aspects of the original self can remain.
The music video, directed by Aerin Moreno (Tate McRae, KATSEYE), takes a literal look at the day after a party, with a table covered in half-eaten food, a slight mess around the space, and the sun shining through the windows, showing Jepsen in her lounge clothes; meanwhile, when the track changes into the excitable dance track, the scene shifts into the night, midway through the party, with low lighting, dancing, and company. In both scenes, Jepsen is happy and enjoying the quiet moments and the party. “After All” is the thesis statement for the new album and gives the audience a preview of Jepsen’s new era.
Day and Night will be released Sep 18, 2026, with the new single available to stream on all platforms, along with the music video.
