On May 8, 2026, the R&B artist Jenevieve released her album CRYSALIS (CODA); within the project was a song that captured many. The last track on disc 2 of the album is none other than “Fleur-De-Lis” featuring Lous and The Yakuza—a perfect end to her album but also the beginning of our curiosity.
This song is filled with soft vocals that are soothing to the ear, but the subject matter behind the French and English lyrics is that of fear and uncertainty. It’s a beautiful arrangement of feelings; the use of both English and French works in harmony, and the overall appeal of the song truly comes from how well Jenevieve and Lous and The Yakuza’s voices complement one another.
Lyrics Full of Misfortune and a Rich History
“Fleur-De-Lis” translates to "flower of the lily/iris.” The words fleur de lis have a rich history and different meanings, as they are typically associated with religion and the French hierarchy. Something that we found interesting while reading up on the meaning was this quote on britannica.com: “The lily was said to have sprung from the tears shed by Eve as she left Eden.” We found that fitting within the song's misfortune-filled lyrics. We are sure there are many layers to dig into, and we thoroughly enjoyed both exploring it and simply listening to the immaculate vocals.
A Visualizer In Which They Look Effortlessly Cool
The visualizer for “Fleur-De-Lis” was released on July 29, 2026. It’s a perfect, eye-grabbing video with a cinematic appeal and vibe that aligns perfectly with the song itself. The video starts with a split screen, initially making us believe that the singers are in two different places. Eventually, Lous and The Yakuza walked to Jenevieve, and they stroll together as Jenevieve is about to start her part of the chorus.
The colors are beautiful throughout the entire video. The video includes clips of the city and other random shots that add to the entire aesthetic. The best part was seeing both of the singers together.
Visually, they looked effortlessly cool.
Everything contributed to that coolness - from their outfits to the editing, which used split-screen in multiple ways and captured our attention.
This makes us realize why visualizers are important: they not only put a face to the voice but also give us a good sense of the artists' chemistry. Overall, the song “Fleur-De-Lis” is a brilliant collaboration by Jenevieve and Lous and The Yakuza. The song truly does shine on its own, but the visualizer, even though it wasn’t a full music video, was the cherry on top. We are excited to keep up with both Jenevieve and Lous and The Yakuza and can only hope they collaborate again in the future.
