Stepping into a different sound, Harry Styles’ release of “Aperture” leaves many stunned. While it is very clear from the title of the album that it would involve some sort of disco, dance, house, or EDM influences, it still left many puzzled. Not necessarily in a bad way, but rather, people are left curious about this new direction.
Aperture Lets Light In
“Aperture” is just over 5 minutes long and gives the listeners a generous amount of time to settle into what this song is. It is a very international track that contrasts a dance beat with Styles’ slow melodies. Upon first listen, it is just a good dance pop track, but the more it replays, the more it evolves into a mesmerizing single. The meaning of aperture in photography is essentially the amount of light being let in through the camera lens. Depending on how open or closed it is, how much light is let in. When applying that to Harry Styles’ new song, it could potentially be a self-reflection of how being emotionally closed or open to the world can affect the amount of good things entering their life. Of course, it’s speculative, and this is only the first song of the 12-track album. Overall, the song serves as a good idea of what the remainder of the album will sound like.
Muted Colors and Back Bending Choreography
Harry’s New Music Video is composed of muted colors, film-like direction, and a back-and-forth fight turned dance choreography. It goes full circle from leaving his hotel room to returning. Something that was noticeable was the way in which the interactions between Harry and the person trailing him turned from an altercation into a charismatic action and dance piece. Visually interesting to watch and kept in alignment with Harry’s eccentricity.

Along with the official song names, Harry has released performance dates! There were rumors about a residency or a tour. Well, both are right. Harry Styles is set to play 30 shows at Madison Square Garden in New York City while also releasing tour dates for the Netherlands, the UK, Mexico, Australia, and Brazil.
For this tour, Styles is partnering with UK non-profit Choose Love, which provides support and aid to displaced communities. This new era of Harry Styles is bold and purposeful. The message behind his song, the lightness of a dance track, the musicians he worked with, and the non-profit he chose to align with are all, in a way, a message of love and unity to the world. We are ecstatic about this new tour/residency, and we can’t wait to hear the remaining 11 tracks of the album!
