New Jersey-born, LA-based artist Goldie Scott has released her new single ahead of her upcoming full-length debut album. Taking cues from the long history of Western Americana sounds, Scott blends indie ballads and pop to create a highly personal and emotional account of the complications of family relationships.
Young Girl Coming to the Canyon
Goldie Scott is proof that the inspiration of Laurel Canyon lives on in the modern era through her inspired mix of Americana, Pop, and Country to develop a tribute to the LA music scene, while remaining true to herself. Coming from New Jersey Scott comments that the nature of New Jersey was influential in her inspiration, including watching her father perform at the Stone Pony, leading to her fascination with the concept of “home” as a physical place that gives you the license to be who you are without reservations.
On her latest single, “Blame It On Me,” Scott gets personal and dives into the complications of relationships and the politics of family, saying, “Family relationships can be really complicated, and I don’t think people talk about that enough. “There’s a certain intensity that comes with loving someone deeply while also feeling hurt or frustrated by them. It’s messy, but it’s honest.”
Scott allowed herself the opportunity to reflect on the emotional event that inspired the song, writing it almost immediately following the moment, calling it “instinctual”. Scott remarking the writing was instinctual is a testament to her talent and ability to craft a compelling narrative and bring it to life.
Summertime Realness
As Scott prepares to release her full-length debut this Summer, Scott is also releasing an accompanying music video to “Blame It On Me” featuring cottagecore visuals and a dreamscape of Sott’s personas of a stage starlett and the singer-songwriter behind the scenes.
Scott’s dedication to honesty in the music video is the extension of her dedication to being real with her artistry through her writing, saying, “It reflects that feeling of chasing an impossible version of yourself. And realizing you don’t need the mask — you can just come home to who you actually are.” Scott’s mature and introspective self-reflection sets the stage for an album filled with relatable experiences intertwined with personal stories.
