Before Cirkut, There Was Henry Russell Walter
He created his own opportunities, was it luck or possibly a lot of perseverance?
Cirkut was born in Canada and given the name Henry Russell Walter. While he didn’t grow up in a music filled environment he said in an interview with The Fader that he was introduced to music through friends and that the first genre he developed a love for was hip-hop. He lived in Halifax during his teen years, then relocated to Toronto after graduating high school for more opportunities before making the big move to Los Angeles, California. Walter spent time learning from his surroundings and several people including Skratch Bastid and Mstrkrft. Cirkut’s first big placement was Britney Spears’ “Mmm Papi” from her album ‘Circus.’
The Producer Behind Some Of The Most Beloved Pop Hits
It takes true love for music to be so in tune, not just with Pop but the entire music industry.
Cirkut is to be a magnet for success when it comes to music. The amount for thriving projects he has co-written or produced is above ordinary. He took part in Miley Cyrus’ career defining song “Wrecking Ball”, Usher’s “I Don’t Mind” and Lady Gaga’s recent hit “Abracadabra.” He has also produced for some of the biggest K-Pop artists including Rose, for her biggest song to date “APT.” featuring Bruno Mars and “Seven” by Jungkook featuring Latto.
The amount of successful eras this talented producer has helped create is worthy of praise. The beloved Teenage Dream Era from Katy Perry wouldn’t have been the same without his contribution to “Wide Awake” and “Part Of Me.” Charlie XCX’s Brat era took over the social media feeds for an entire summer, the tracks Henry Walter contributed to are “360”, “Rewind” and “365.” Lady Gaga’s current ‘Mayhem’ era earned her several Grammy nominations and Cirkut co-wrote and produced most of the album. Another notable project is The Weeknd’s ‘Starboy’ which was not only Grammy award winning but also beloved by fans.
Grammy Winner, What’s Next?
Not just a few Grammy nominations but 7 for this year's 2026 Awards.
During the 2026 Grammy Awards Cirkut left with a few Grammys including the one for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical. This specific one is a grand accomplishment since he was nominated not just for a project but for himself as a producer. His ability to continue to explore music with new artists while maintaining some of the old relationships with artists he’s previously worked with seems to be a strength of his.
While not much is known about the projects Cirkut is working on for this year, it is certain that he will continue to provide the music industry with his own refreshing perspective and creative input. We look forward to seeing what new eras he contributes to!
