MGK Times of My Life Release: The Release of a Fan Favorite

MGK has been a poster boy of the alternative and rap scene for the last decade, with 2020 making him a household name after the release of Tickets to My Downfall. Six years later, MGK is back with a single and music video for “Times of My Life,” off the album lost americana, to fan excitement.

Times of My Life Lore

Fans have been patiently waiting for the official release of Times of My Life, which had been locked in the vault for 8 years. Now that it's out, they're thrilled and discussing the changes from the demo. In 2018, MGK collaborated with Travis Barker on a track slated for the TTMD album, but it leaked and became a cult classic among die-hard fans. Originally, the ToML was a pop-punk powerhouse track featuring Travis Barker, SlimXX, BazeXX, Nick Long, and No Love For The Middle Child.

Changing Meaning

Mimicking the way MGK blacked out his tattoos to express his maturity and spiritual growth, MGK went on record saying Times of My Life had a changed meaning since he originally wrote and recorded the song. The song had become a milestone in MGK's life five years ago, a hallmark of his success, after years as an underground hit. Initially, the track was halted due to a dispute with the Tom Petty estate, which claimed “Times of My Life” was similar to “Learning to Fly.”

After deliberation, the song was cleared, and MGK moved forward with the release. Times of My Life was written before MGK started a relationship with Megan Fox. In the wake of their relationship changes, MGK said the song has taken on new meaning, possibly referencing the shifts, including the birth of their daughter, Saga.
