There was a time when kids and teens everywhere were begging for a blonde wig with bangs and a microphone. They needed to be the most famous pop star with a secret normal life - Hannah Montana. 20 years later, the impact of the series is celebrated.

Hannah Montana’s Successful 4 Season Run (Plus A Movie!)

Who would have thought that a show on Disney Channel would create a phenomenon that transcended TV audiences? Hannah Montana was first released in 2006 and ran until 2011. A film and 4 seasons of the series created during that time are, and still are, beloved by fans everywhere. Part of what made this world fun for viewers was the comedy, music, the premise of a pop star living a normal life, the cast, and the many guest stars.

Corbin Bleu, Austin Butler, Kat Graham, Jesse McCartney, Dolly Parton, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson were only a few of the names that made appearances in Hannah Montana. The wackiness and comedic elements allowed for the show to find a place for varying guests, including Dr. Phil, John Cena, and Joey Fatone. The Jonas Brothers’ popular appearance on Hannah Montana led to the song “We Got The Party” by both Hannah and The Jonas Brothers. David Archuleta, appearing on Hannah Montana, is still to this day a fan favorite along with their duet “I Wanna Know You”.

In the film Hannah Montana: The Movie, Taylor Swift, early in her career, made a short appearance to perform a song. The movie premiered in theaters and was a hit with the fans. It also produced “The Climb”, which to this day is a fan favorite song from Miley Cyrus.

Hannah Montana’s Charting Songs & Best of Both Worlds Tour

Hannah Montana’s success as an artist surpassed what any executive, cast member, or producer could have imagined. Hannah was everywhere, merch was being purchased left and right…and the music? The music was charting. “The Best of Both Worlds” was the title track of the show, and it made it into the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart. Other songs that charted on the Billboard Hot 100 were “Life’s What You Make It”, “If We Were A Movie”, and “Nobody’s Perfect”. “He Could Be The One” peaked at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, making it the highest charting song from Hannah Montana.

The Best of Both Worlds Tour was highly anticipated; not only were the Jonas Brothers opening the tour, but it was Miley’s introduction to the world as Miley Cyrus, the artist. This tour made a clear division between Miley’s on-screen personality, Hannah Montana, and her real-life self. It wasn’t only a successful tour, but it was turned into a documentary-style concert film which premiered in theaters…in 3D!

Disney’s Gamble on Miley Cyrus

It was recently revealed that over 1,200 girls auditioned for the role of Hannah Montana, including names like Lucy Hale, Taylor Momsen, and Jojo. Miley Cyrus was still young and lacked experience in acting, but Disney took a chance. The series became a success, and she became bigger than the show itself.
